Created by Scottish author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes is now a world-renowned fictional detective who first appeared in print in 1887. Famous for his astute logical reasoning, his ability to adopt almost any disguise and his use of forensic science skills to solve difficult cases, the detective skills of Sherlock Holmes border on phenomenal.
Since his creation in the late 19th century, Sherlock Holmes’ character grew in popularity enormously and remains to this day a famous character in 21st-century popular culture, along with Dr Watson of course. The Guinness World Records has consistently listed Sherlock Holmes as the ‘most portrayed movie character’ with more than 70 actors playing the part in more than 200 films.
